The resources developed by the Kentucky Art Education Association (KyAEA) for the implementation of the new Kentucky Academic Standards for Visual Arts were created by John Vogel, Elementary Division Leader, to help educators translate the standards into clear, student-friendly, and classroom-ready tools.
These resources were designed to make the standards more accessible and applicable by providing simplified “I Can” statements, instructional examples, and visual organization that supports daily lesson planning, student goal-setting, and assessment. For instance, the Anchor Standards At-A-Glance sheet gives teachers a quick reference to all eleven anchor standards across the four artistic processes, Creating, Presenting, Responding, and Connecting helping to ensure balanced and comprehensive arts instruction.
These materials were created to enhance instruction and consistency across Kentucky classrooms, and to support teachers in making the standards meaningful and engaging for all students. They are intended to be used in conjunction with, not as a replacement for, the full Kentucky Academic Standards for Visual Arts document. These resources reflect the thoughtful work and insight of the Standards Revision Committee, which included KyAEA board members Rachael King, Susan Hawkins, Cayce Davenport, Miranda Meeks, John Vogel, Sarah Horn, and Ilona Szekely.
