Scholarship Opportunities

The Kentucky Art Education Association is honored to offer the Gloria Carrico First-Time Attendee Scholarship in memory of a special educator and longtime member of Kentucky’s art education community.

Gloria Carrico dedicated much of her life to teaching and sharing her love of art with others. She taught art at Bowling Green Christian Academy for 19 years and was recognized by KyAEA as the 2010 Private School Art Teacher of the Year and the 2022 Higher Education Art Teacher of the Year. She also shared her talents through 4-H, 4-H Camp, and WKU Super Saturday classes, giving students many opportunities to explore their creativity.

Gloria was also remembered for the kind of person she was. She was described as a kind and generous woman who made a positive difference in the lives of the people around her. She was always willing to offer an encouraging word, a warm smile, and her support to others. Her impact reached far beyond her own classroom and continues through the many students, educators, friends, and colleagues whose lives she touched.

As an organization, we want to honor Gloria by helping others experience the same professional community that meant so much to her. The $200 Gloria Carrico First-Time Attendee Scholarship will provide one first-time conference attendee with financial assistance toward the cost of attending the KyAEA Conference.

Attending a state art education conference can be an important first step for an educator. It provides opportunities to meet other art teachers, discover new ideas and resources, learn from experienced educators, and become more connected to the art education community across Kentucky. We hope this scholarship encourages someone who may not otherwise be able to attend to take that first step.

The $200 scholarship is made possible through a generous donation from a longtime KyAEA supporter. We are grateful for their generosity and for the opportunity to use their support to celebrate Gloria's life and legacy.

Gloria believed in the importance of art, education, creativity, and people. Through this scholarship, we hope to continue that spirit by welcoming a new educator into the KyAEA community and helping them build connections that will continue throughout their career.
